Tomahawk HUGE update with a log

Recommended Posts

Soooo I didn't log in for a few days and then that became over a year haha. A week ago or so I figured I would pop my head in here and see if this place is still up and running. Pleasant surprise to see yall still kicking it haha. So I figured I would try starting back up a log to track what I am doing. Never been great at keep up with progress so here goes nothing.

But before we get to all that maybe I should talk about what has happened in the last almost year and a half haha.

I finally moved out of my parents house. Definitely should have done that way sooner than I did but it came with a lot of unknowns. I had quit real estate. It just wasn't working out. I was driving all over the middle Georgia area showing beat up foreclosures that didn't pay much and didn't know crap about the areas. I felt like I got little to no help from my bosses. If I asked a question or asked them to review a document it would take forever to have them get back to me. I understood why but it didn't help. I felt like it just wasn't going to work out. I eventually found a job through one of the pastors at church. The missions pastor who I went on a mission trip with knew a small business owner who was looking for someone. It was at a cabinet shop making cabinet doors. Not like anything I had done before in my life. But it had some perks for sure. It was absolutely mind numbing work haha therefore I just put in headphones and listened to whatever I could find. I met a guy from my same church who I had never met before(Jacob). He is a really good guy who liked to talk and we became friends quick. He was really encouraging and open and honest about his faith and life. That has always been a struggle of mine. I have a hard time finding people who I can have spiritual connection with while being real. I had found that at Celebrate Recovery but that almost felt like a bubble. I hate that my life group feels like a place to put on a show of how SUPER spiritual you are. So it was good to have a friend and brother in Christ who I could be real with. He ended up getting a job as a youth pastor and we still keep in contact.

So back to moving out. The timing of it worked out  A guy in my life group just went from active duty officer in the Air Force to the guard trying to complete his pilot's license and had a "roommate"(another AF officer who stored his stuff there for a few months before moving to a new base) move out. So I moved in with him August 2018. It was a pretty good living situation. Basically stayed out of each others way and I lived for cheaper than I could if I was by myself in the ghetto lol.

I will get back to living situation in a bit. But for the MAIN EVENT! Back in April 2018 I started talking to Emily again(yes a girl I previously brought up in my old log). We had tried dating when she first joined the life group(church) but neither of us were ready and it ended pretty quickly. For some reason I struck things back up with her. She had stopped coming to the group and was helping out with the middle school ministry. But she came out to dinner with a mutual friend of ours and I felt that spark I had felt before that I just couldn't explain. Eventually I asked her out dinner. It took a little effort but we started dating. Before too long we basically spent everyday together. I can't recall ever spending so much time with anyone. Usually when it comes to females I get tired of being around them... QUICK. Like by half way through I am trying to figure out when is too early to end it. Was a big change for both of us because we both enjoyed each others' company. Things were going really well and before too long we started marriage. I had never thought of myself as being someone who would get married quickly. But after about 6 months I asked Emily to marry me in front of our church(we started going to a smaller campus so it was about 200+- people). She said yes and we were engaged. We had been talking about getting married well before this. In fact we had started planning the wedding and everything before I got the ring or anything. We knew it wasn't going to be a long engagement so we started planning. I can't say for sure when but sometime something changed. I had always had a hard time really opening up to her but I had let her in. Then for some reason I retreated back and back. During our relationship I gave up porn for like 100 days and then I caved. And I just buried it but I can't bury it. Just caused more issues. I know it was driving a wedge because I definitely wasn't responding to her the same way. Then we went to premarital counseling and I just knew. We did so well on how we matched up and I felt like it was a lie. I sought some advice out and then made the decision to end things with Emily. We honestly haven't spoken since and that was back in December.

I had planned on moving in with Emily in March(when we got married). My roommate moved guard stations to another Air Force base in February. So I went from maybe I will have to couch surf for a month to I need to find a place to live haha. I started asking around and then a girl in my group asked me if I would consider moving in with her. I had no intentions of moving in with a female I wasn't married to. We both agreed we had no romantic interest in each other and living together wouldn't work if we did. I have lived here for over 3 months and it has been good so far. She is not a typical female so that helps and I am not attracted to her haha.

Fun fact, I had gotten a call from my old real estate boss back in October and we kept playing phone tag. I had already started thinking about it but getting that call made me think about it more... I was thinking about real estate again. Because I know I didn't want to do cabinets long term and my options felt limited. I had failed in real estate before but I wasn't sure if it was me or the situation or both. I was deep into porn and the work situation was far from ideal. It just wasn't my personality the way my boss operated. He got names and numbers for people and just ran through them never really knowing them before or maybe even after. I never really made any money working for them and I felt grinded down from that style of working. So what was I going to do? I had been talking to the newish discipleship pastor(small group) and getting some mentoring from him. I brought up the idea of getting back into real estate and he immediately told me to talk to this couple he knew. So I talked with them and everything about them screamed too good to be true lol. I was a failed agent who couldn't cut it YET they were offering more % of commission, less desk fees(monthly dues), I would get money when other people on the team sold houses, and the pay would go up the 2nd(5%) and 3rd(5%) year. Oh and he is a builder so I would be getting leads for people interested in new construction at a really good price range that a lot of people are interested in. Plus access to do open houses in those new construction homes(where most people show up to open houses). It just didn't make sense. I kind of got off to a slow start. Joined back in November and I am set to close 2 houses this month and just got another house under contract this week. Supposed to meet with this most recent couple about listing their home next Monday and have to check with the other couples if they want to list their home. I think if just these 3 deals go through I will have made more money than any other year in real estate and it is just getting started. I saw a post on Facebook where I could see I left money on the table to be made. There is opportunity out there and for some reason it has been placed before me. I am tired of messing up my life. People around me deserve better than that.

Ok so how about what I am doing for this log haha. For diet I have been doing Carb Nite Solution for a little over 2 months. After I moved in with Elsbeth I got sick and got really lazy with diet. Then jumped back on Carb Nite with a vengeance. I figured out some things I was doing wrong and clear them up and have been seeing big improvements. I wish I was bold enough to take pictures but that hasn't happened. But I can definitely tell a difference in appearance and the way clothes fit. The scale is hoovering in the high 230s right now. Before this past year I hadn't been under 240 in YEARS. But this past week I decided to do more of a Carb Backload week. I had my Carb Nite on Saturday but then Tuesday and Thursday I got pizza and yogurt haha. I had double steak and double beef with pineapple on my pizza from Dominos(unlimited toppings for $10). I checked my weight this evening before pizza at the gym and I was 240 with everything on so I would guess 237ish... I wasn't expecting that after pizza Tuesday. I definitely don't plan on switching to Carb Backloading yet because I know I have some more healthiness to gain and fat to lose haha.

Workout I recently switched from a Matt Wenning style Conjugate to https://www.t-nation.com/workouts/the-best-damn-strength-plan-for-natural-lifters  By Christian Thibabo2reif. So far I am liking it. Today was the start of week 3. A few things I have done is squat 395 for 6 and bench 265 for 8 reps. Those were not things I was doing before. My bench had fell to 275 for 3. So I am going to try this for a bit. It is high frequency and low volume.

Super random side note: I went and looked at motorcycles Wednesday.

Wow! Welcome back.

Quite an adventure Tommy, but good to hear about the job prospects and living arrangement that seems solid.

Sorry things didn't work out with Emily...was she the school teacher? When you broke things off, did you actually tell her about your porn addiction?

Porn can be a sort of cart and horse thing...porn can be a problem for married guys as well but OTOH, if you are committed to remaining chaste outside of a married relationship, porn can become the only release and getting married, and getting some real sexual contact with a real person can make leaving porn easier.

Haha ya it has been a wild ride. Thankfully things are moving in the right direction now.

She is in human resources now. I don't think I went into her job in the log because she was at a different job then. We had talked about my porn problem before. I didn't go into why I was ending it but to be honest I couldn't quite say why I was at the time. I just knew it wasn't right to move forward.

Ya it really felt like a vicious cycle. By the time I get good amount of time away from porn I am horny as hell. Then I go back to the only release I have ever had and it kills the desire for something more.

Alright so here is my workout from yesterday. I will just include the work set.

Squat with not Duffalo bar: 395 for 6 reps. Was supposed to do 410 but forgot what number I was using as a max. I did 395 last week as my 87.5% and I will do it again next week 😕

Zercher squats with thick back rest pause: 255 for 6 reps then 3 reps then 2 reps

Flat DB bench press mTor: 80s for 9 reps

Rope cable triceps extension myo-reps: 130(?) for 9 reps then 3,3,3,3

DB lateral raise: 35s for 8 reps then 3,3,3,3

So I went a little crazy and decided to jump on a software pitch Kiefer did(Carb Nite and Carb Backloading). Was going to be $200 for 3 months now because of some delays it will be $200 for 6 months. So that will sting a little less. I had not gotten a real pay check in months when I jumped on the software deal. In fact I was waiting to get my tax refund. I ended up selling the engagement ring which for some reason I didn't want to go through with. I guess it was admitting it was a failure. Glad I finally got rid of it though. Waiting on a closing that happens on the 16th and then I will have a nice buffer. My monthly expenses are quite low which is nice. Plan on using this time to save for a house of my own.

Alright so workout from today

Pendlay rows: 5 sets of 4 reps with 275

Romanian Deadlifts: 275 for 9 mTor

Straight arm pulldowns with rope: 130 for 8,3,3,3,3

Bent over lateral raise: 35s for 9,3,3,3,3

Incline DB curls: 30s for 8 reps mTor

Definitely looking forward to some good sleep tonight. Twice this week I passed out without my CPAP machine on and it just isn't the same sleep. I woke up later and put it on but definitely not the whole night like usual. Hopefully get a good night of sleep tonight and be rested and recovered. I don't generally sleep too well the nights I have carbs if I am being honest. Saturday I don't plan on having a full on Carb Nite since I had carbs Tuesday and Thursday.

Quit having so many carbs on your carb nights then lol that shit shouldn't be a free pass to go apeshit.

Btw you are looking strong! I'm jealous of that benching. Good stuff.

Haha I have backed them off a bit. Was going too crazy with the sweets in the past. Now it is more protein and savory stuff with a little sweets here and there.

The bench is the craziest thing. Not long ago I did 275 for 3 reps on bench and it was a struggle. I am pretty sure I was doing a fairly narrow grip but still.

Here was my workout from Saturday:

Bench 275 for 7 reps

Close grip floor press 275 for 6,3,1

Hack squat 270 for 10 mTor

DB shoulder press 70 for 8 mTor

French press machine 150 for 10 mTor

This past week I understand being strong because I was definitely fuller with carbs. I don't have a consistent accurate scale but I checked at the gym and I am pretty sure I was heavy Saturday haha. So definitely back to Carb Nite this week haha. I am seeing positive changes in appearance and strength so I am happy with the progress.

Kiefer's program is ridiculously priced.

To put it into perspective:

RP Diet's app and plan is $17/month or something like that

Chad Wesley Smith's AI platform is in the $30 range per month

Kiefer's services-expert or no-at $65 per month is insane-IMO.

Note: I don't say this to dissuade you. I just saw some emails from him (before he wrecked his shit in a third-world country, alone), and was astounded by why he thought his ideas were worthy of that type of premium. He hasn't published any new work that I know of, so it seems overpriced to me.

Ya honestly if I hadn't been mentally prepared for it to be more it would have been a shocked. In my mind I already knew it was going to be expensive.

Well because of the wreckage the program will be $34 a month for those who had already pre-ordered and $50 a month for those who pre-order now. Of course there are going to be some delays. Which I am sure you are aware of he is famous for at this point.

Honestly it was kind of a perfect storm for me deciding to try it. I had made losing weight a focus when dating Emily but it was hard because she wasn't exactly trying. Got sick when I moved in with Elsbeth at the end of January and went carb crazy haha. Decided to hunker down and stick to Carb Nite. In the past I tended to start it and then slowly decide Carb Backloading was more fun... because it is haha. BUT I am not in position to do Carb Backloading. Need to focus on my health more right now. Listening to and relistening to some of Kiefer's podcasts helped hammer that point home for me. So I figured why not dive in deeper especially since I had noticed improvements since making tweaks. Plus it definitely helped I knew I had a closing coming up to relieve financial stress. Honestly I don't feel a lot of financial stress often just because I have minimal expenses(thankfully). I am looking at the cost of Kiefer's stuff as an add on to my gym membership which is $30 a month anyway. Interested to see how it helps. Figured yall would appreciate a guinea pig lol.

Other news, just had an appraisal come back. I am working with the buyer. The buyer beat them up on the price throughout negotiations. The appraisal came back over list price. I am in a seller's market(low inventory) yet homes tend to still go slightly under list price. I did not tell the listing agent home much it appraised for haha.

Bench press strength is mostly about how jacked you are. You must have just gained a bit of muscle.

I am alright with this suggestion haha. I definitely feel like I have gained some muscle. Feels like my muscles are popping a bit more lately and my veins are making appearances.

Here was my workout for today:

Sumo deadlift 385: 5 sets of 2 reps

Chest supported rows: 170 for 10,3,3,3

Face pulls: 130 for 9 mTor

BB curl: 100 for 9,3,3,3,3

Abs superset seated crunch machine 130 for 12 reps and then swiss ball crunch 12 reps. Did 2 sets before I had major cramping and said screw doing abs haha. I might try again tomorrow but start off a little easier. You know ease into it a bit since I don't generally do abs. Christian Thibaubrjwn suggests a blitz method of doing abs every workout for 3 weeks followed by 3 weeks off and repeat. Might try and give that a go.

I'm going to start doing function-oriented core work even though I detest it. I think it may help my posture. So boring, though. And not cool. There are no badass ab exercises.

Farmers walk?

Workout for today

Military press 170 for 4 reps

High incline BB press rest pause 225 for 10, 2, 2

Pec deck 140 for 8,3,3,3,3

Leg press 540 for 12,3,3,3

Lying DB extension 30s for 9 mTor

Remember when I said I was going to do abs.. ya I didn't do them today haha. Was short on time. Wasted some talking a bit. I don't think they would have locked up too bad today though. My right leg did cramp up when I was doing military press. That is usually what stops me from getting more reps.

Today had some carbs. Had some Korean fusions. A beef bulgogi quesadilla, a beef bulgogi taco, a spicy pork taco, and some sesame fries. I could have done without the fries honestly. Came home and had another protein shake and a bowl of marshmallow fruity pebbles.

My blind friend asked me how much weight I have lost since January and said I felt more jacked haha.

I was thinking anti-rotation movements mostly but heavy walks aren't a bad idea

They can be a "fun" way to torture oneself.

Here is my workout from last night.

Weighted chin up +15 pounds 5 sets of 2 reps

Seated leg curl 180+ for 12,3,3,3,3

Lat pulldown pronated 230 for 8,3,3,3,3

DB shrug 95 for 12 mTor

Incline hammer curl 35 for 8 mTor

Not a bad workout. Today is the workout that sucks haha. Squats and then rest pause zercher squats. I look forward to most other workouts but this one just wears on me haha. Drinking some coffee now to get ready for it.

Had my first closing with my new real estate team. Pretty smooth transaction overall. Glad to have this first one back under my belt. Little differences here and there. I am definitely glad to be working for who I am now. Saw one of my bosses at the closing attorney's office today. He called me up later to congratulate me on my first closing with them. Nice to have a boss reach out like that. Plus he joked about saying he will have a new level of respect for me if I can get another one of my buyers to closing as well. My bosses are familiar with the buyers because they worked with them before but they are particular. The buyers who just closed today had been looking for 2 years as well. Boss said patience must be my virtue haha. I guess when it comes to work haha.

So today ended up being a fun day. Had the closing at 11am. Went to the gun range with my dad AFTER we stopped by the motorcycle shop across the street. Unfortunately they didn't really have a lot of the bikes I am interested in. Oh well really, I don't plan on buying yet anyway. Realistically I want to save for a good down payment for a house. If/when the other 2 houses close I will definitely be moving strong in that direction. But the nature of my pay doesn't really help. Hopefully I can get the ball really rolling and do something crazy. More than likely I will be looking for a new place to live the start of next year. Plus if I get a motorcycle I would like to keep it in the garage(which this current house doesn't have.

The other part of my day. So I had my 2nd meal around 2pm. I actually got to the gym a little after 7pm. Not exactly my ideal wait time after a meal. Plus today is to me the toughest workout of this routine. Here it is:

Squat: 400 for 8 reps, I had messed up last week so I ended up doing 400(or 87.5%) 3 weeks in a row 😕 I can't recall the last time I squatted this much. In fact my strength is at a recent high while clearly leaning out.

Zercher squats with thick bar 275 for 7,4,2 rest pause

DB flat bench 100 for 9 reps mTor(5 second negatives with a 2 second pause/stretch at bottom of rep)

Rope triceps extension 130 for 12,3,3,3

DB lateral raise 35*12,3,3,3

Edit: added about my squat strength and then this.

I had more of a Carb Backload last night. Decent chunk of pizza with yogurt and a cherry turnover with a bowl of Marshmallow Fruity Pebbles. Wasn't quite sure how a Carb Nite would fit in this week so decided to make it a Carb Backload week. Saturday I have an open house(work) and then going to my sister and brother in laws gender reveal(yup I am going to be an uncle). I think I will take Saturday as a rest day(we will see). Then Sunday helping out at middle school ministry party. They are getting out of school. Might lift before that and then have some carbs later.

Good job. Need squat vid. Not sure I believe you ;)

Lol that reminds me of something that happened maybe last week or so. There is a young guy(Reuben) at the gym who is 22, 200 pounds, benches mid 300s, and deadlifts high 400s. And another guy who is older maybe 40s(probably) or late 30s (Mario, spelled wrong) who is shorter than me and 270 maybe. Had a strong bench. When they were talking I guess it somehow came up that Reuben told Mario that I was stronger than Reuben on deadlifts and that my deadlift used to be over 600. So Mario asked me about it and I told him 675 in a past life haha. He asked for video proof and I showed him my old 675 deadlift videos. And I still got Reuben on deadlifts now haha. He is more of a reps guy.

Just made me think of that. But maybe I will try and get a squat video. My squats have never been special. Used to lag behind my deadlift by a good 100 pounds, I think the difference is a lot less now. Never used wraps or knee sleeves before just a belt. Next time I squat I think the weight is supposed to be 410.

3 hours ago, Growth Factor said:

Pass me your creatine bottle, Tom

Haha being for real I am not taking anything special. Haven't even messed with a test booster. The hardest stuff I take is creatine and leucine. I did pick up a bottle of White Pipe by Controlled Labs but thats just a non-stim preworkout that expired so they sold it for CHEAP.

Here is my workout from today:

Pendlay row: 285 for 5 sets of 2 reps

Romanian deadlift 285 for 9 reps mTor

Straight arm pulldown 120 for 9,3,3,3

Bent over lateral raise 35 for 9,3,3,3

Incline DB curl 30 for 10 mTor

So my Carb Backload might get switched to Saturday and lift on Saturday haha. I was going to lift in between Bible study(ends about 3pm) and middle school ministry party(starts about 5p). BUT went to a game night tonight and a guy from there said he is coming to Bible study and bringing Secret Hitler. If you haven't played it I suggest it. Only got to play it one occasion before but it was fun. It is about deception or figuring out who is lying. Was not expecting to like it haha. So I guess now my plan will be to just go lift after my sister and brother in laws gender reveal on Saturday. Since I am just doing a Carb Backload it is ok that it will be a little later when I lift and all. Hopefully I won't have any issues sleeping that night because I have a long day ahead of me on Sunday. Volunteer/greeting first church service, help with middle schoolers second service, Bible study with singles 1:30pm, Secret Hitler, and then out of school bash with middle school ministry. Ya Sundays are always relaxing haha.

You mentioned he's better at reps on DL....it's funny because I can't do reps on DL worth a shit compared to my max. But honestly this lift has the biggest variance. Like on squats you can generally guess what a max is based on reps much better than you can with DL. Or am I connecting my own dots here?

I think he said 405 for 8 reps but that was touch and go.

I don't have much to go on except my own personal experience. I feel like my 1st rep of a set of deadlifts is my worst. I can't recall the weight 4 something and the 1st rep looked like straight slow garbage. I proceeded to knock out another 3 maybe 4. In fact I think this is the time Reuben and I deadlifted together that verified to him I was stronger than him. I was doing mine beltless and I think with chalk. I was building in an excuse for why he was stronger haha.

Today the big lift test is bench, max reps with 265. Last time I did 8 reps.

Well in that case, you're a piece of shit. You should be benching 270 for 8 then.

Haha thanks.

This could probably be a short post BUT it is going to be a long one haha.

So today driving to my sister and brother in laws house I was just thinking... I want a nephew haha. Like I would be cool with a niece but I want a nephew. I hadn't really given it much thought before even with the gender reveal coming up. Well as it turns out I am getting a nephew haha. Looking forward to meeting the little guy October 25th. I will definitely get him into lifting weights haha. I even mentioned motorcycles again around my sister haha. She was not impressed in that context haha. Not sure about the future of me having kids but I am going to be the best uncle I can be.

Recently a guy I knew, and many of my friends were close to died. He just had a son and already had one. Kind of put things into perspective in a lot of ways. He had a way of being blunt and honest. Came across as cocky a lot but when he committed to something he invested himself into it. I can't say I have shown that characteristic in my life. I want that to be the case when I am put in the ground or burned back to dust. I don't want there to be a question of what I stood for and what I was passionate about. So maybe a powerlifting meet is in my future in honor of someone I knew but wish I could have called friend.

Here was my workout from tonight:

Bench 265 for 9 maybe 10. When I am getting to the gym only 2 people are there. An older man and his teenage son. As I am getting ready for my real set they are headed out the door. I ask for a spot. They do 1 on each side. I definitely felt their hands on the ends at some point so I am not sure how much or when. I feel pretty confident saying 9. Definitely won't be asking him for a spot again. I was looking for a "don't help unless I am failing spot" but not planning on failing.

Anyway

Close grip floor press 275 for 5,3,1 The warm up felt super easy. Didn't have a spotter this time.

Hack squat 295 for 8 mTor

DB shoulder press 75 for 7 mTor

French triceps machine 150*10 mTor

Ended up talking with a guy I have seen from the gym a good bit who is strong. Similar age as me, 195ish squatting low 600, benching 405, deadlifting mid 600s. I have seen him enough to know he isn't full of it I just didn't put all the numbers together. And built like a bodybuilder. In fact that is kind of how the conversation started, "are you a bodybuilder or powerlifter?" Basically does both. Good little conversation, good guy.

I have basically been training solo lately. How I have been working hasn't exactly made it easy to lift with someone else. Had some times where I would work in with some friends at the gym but nothing consistent. There actually had been one who had been joining me at the gym. A 5'1" 110 pound girl named Hannah haha. She doesn't exactly push me but it has been motivating. She is not a big time lifter or anything but she is willing to try. Something about someone just going for it is motivating. Short backstory, met her at Bible study, she had been dating a guy already, they eventually got engaged. At a Christmas party for the Bible study I lead I brought a workout book targeted for women(Strong Curves by Bret Contreras) as a white elephant gift. Of course basically the 1 of 2 girls in the group who didn't need help working out got the book. But I talked to her about it through text. Later I get engaged. On a Thursday, Hannah text me to tell me her fiance ended things with her. I had already decided I needed to end things with Emily, I had already gotten advice from 3 men. Just weird timing. Eventually Hannah started joining me at the gym. She has since started dating a guy in the Air Force who just deployed.

The title of the workout is Best Damn Strength Plan for Naturals. I said all that to say this, something stupid asking if she is natural(double entendre). It would be much more obvious if you saw her. I figure it is better to type it out here than say it out loud in front of her.
